2016: Forget PDP victory in Edo, Senator Obende tells Jonathan

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN — THE senator representing Edo North constituency in the National Assembly, Senator Domingo Obende, has told President Goodluck Jonathan to think about winning his own election in 2015 rather than winning Edo State in 2016, saying that winning Edo will be a tall dream for his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
He described the President’s boast that PDP will capture Edo and Rivers in 2015 and 2016 as laughable, just as he described the former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi and others who defected to PDP in Edo State, as political “prostitutes, who have lost touch with members of their constituencies.”
The APC senator, who was reacting to comments by President Jonathan and Ikimi that the PDP will capture Edo State come 2015 and 2016, said that the defectors went to the stadium to “deceive the President that they will win Edo,” adding: “What should bother Jonathan now is about winning his own election and not winning Edo State because these people cannot win their wards during elections for Jonathan.”
Domingo, who is seeking a second term in the Senate and the only APC senator in Edo State, said: “I heard them say they will win Edo and Rivers States, but let me tell you, APC in Rivers is solidly on ground.”
You guys are reporters and in Edo State and you know what is going on. APC today is the party to beat in Edo State.
“At that PDP rally, did you see anybody of substance politically?  I didn’t see anybody serious, because when you talk of seriousness it must be people who can hold to their value and credibility. You can’t take political prostitutes and put them together to say you can win Edo State, how?

Happy Sallah holidays

TODAY and tomorrow, Muslims all over the world will be marking this year’s Id El Kabir and participate in the feast of sacrifice. Their friends, relations, neighbours and well-wishers will also join them in their moment of joy and celebration.
According to the Qur’an, the Muslim Holy Scriptures, this event is held annually to highlight Prophet Ibrahim’s faithfulness to Allah. He willingly agreed to sacrifice his son, Ismail, when commanded to do so. Just when he was about to carry out the sacrifice, Allah sent Angel Jibril to stop him and instead gave him a ram to offer the sacrifice.
Prophet Ibrahim’s inspiring act of faith is legendary beyond the religion of Islam. It illustrates the unquestioning loyalty of the faithful to the Supreme Creator and is upheld as the standard for believers and lovers of God to emulate if they wish to enjoy a rewarding relationship with Him.
For all true Muslims, this is a moment to share the feast of sacrifice with all around them irrespective of their faith, especially the less-privileged people. Unfortunately, most people put more emphasis on the feasting and merriment than the core values of the event, especially dedication to Allah and allowing His commandments to rule our relationship with others.
This year’s celebration comes in the wake of our 54th independence anniversary and the gradual turnaround of the war on terror which the nation is waging against Boko Haram insurgents in the North East. This insurgency, which has sorely tested the bond binding our nation as one people in spite of our diversity, has also led to untold suffering and death of many in the theatre of conflict.
We should all, Muslims and Christians alike, join hands together and quickly bring the insurgency to an end since it has become abundantly clear that Boko Haram is an enemy of all. It has carried out hundreds of attacks, killing people indiscriminately and destroying places of worship not minding which faith their victims belong to.
As we celebrate, let us spare some time to pray for our soldiers fighting to defend us and our nation. They need our moral support rather than politically-motivated criticism and denunciation.   Let us also remain vigilant as we go out to places of recreation, cooperate with one another and report suspicious objects, persons and activities to the law-enforcement agencies. We must be mindful that the enemy chooses moments like this to carry out their dastardly attacks on innocent people.
We should also pray for the safe return of the pilgrims who are performing the Hajj in the Holy Land, that they return to our fold without any sad incident.
We wish all Muslims and Nigerians alike happy Sallah.

Police in Anambra recover arms, ammunition from uncompleted building

By Chimaobi Nwaiwu
Nnewi—The Police in Nnewi yesterday, recovered arms and ammunition, including one AK4, Military rifle, handcuffs, 1,500 live ammunition and 30 fully loaded magazines, from an uncompleted estate at Uruagu Nnewi, owned by an overseas-based businessman.
The arm cache and others were recovered following a tip-off.
Similarly, a joint security task force, comprising the Police, Army, Navy, Department State Service, DSS, and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, raided a suspected baby factory at Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area and rescued   three teenage pregnant girls during the operation.
A woman popularly known as nurse who ran the home and her agent, were arrested by the force.
According to a source, the bubble burst after one of the pregnant girls was allegedly delivered of a baby boy but was dispossessed of the baby.
She was said to have raised the alarm when she could not stomach the disappearance of her new born baby.
The baby was later recovered from the owner of the home by the security operatives and handed over to the mother.
In a related development, the joint task force has uncovered a criminal hideout in Nnewi after a search on an erosion site in Nnewi North Council Area Anambra State.

Synagogue insists building collapse was ‘controlled demolition’

By Ikenna Asomba
Barely seven days to the commencement of the coroner’s inquest instituted by the Lagos State Government to establish the cause and manner of the recent collapse of a building within the premises of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, Ikotun Egbe, Lagos, the church yesterday, released another video clip to establish its continued position that the building collapsed as a result of what it called controlled demolition.
 TB Joshua-Synagogue Church
TB Joshua-Synagogue Church
A statement by Mrs. Bola Akingbade, spokesperson of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, said the inquest would commence on October 13 and would take place at the Ikeja High Court presided over by Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe.
In the two minutes and 20 seconds video titled Controlled Demolition Versus Collapse By Structural Failure, posted on its Facebookpage, TB Joshua Ministries showed clips of at least 19 buildings across the globe that purportedly collapsed as a result of controlled demolition, as well as structural failure.
The video clip showed 11 buildings caving-in completely without cracks, but with the sound-bite of a blast. Also, the collapse did not affect other surrounding buildings but the targeted building. However, eight other buildings did not cave-in completely, but had cracks and bending to the left or right with no blast heard.
Ken Emeakayi, a member of the Emmanuel TV Partners owned by SCOAN, during an interview on September 29 on a local television station, had refuted claims that the building collapsed as a result of structural failure.
Emeakayi, who argued that the collapse was not unconnected with a controlled demolition said: “On that fateful day, as it is customary with Prophet T.B. Joshua, that he will always be at the prayer mountain early every day, he went to the prayer mountain that day, but later left there unceremoniously and unannounced. After leaving the prayer mountain, this aircraft was seen hovering around the prayer mountain at a very low altitude. So, when he (Joshua) was called, he told the caller that he had already left the prayer mountain and had returned to the church.
“After he had left the prayer mountain, the same aircraft was sighted hovering around the church premises by 11.30am, about 40 feet from the building. After hovering the first time, it came back five minutes later and 9 minutes later. It continued like this four times. The CCTV got it very clear, because it is all over the church premises. It was after the fourth time that the building collapsed and the aircraft never came back.”
Asked what was written on the aircraft, he said: “That is the issue, that is what we want to know. We could not from that point see what was written on the aircraft. Like I said, when we watched through this clip, you could see that it was the same aircraft. And some air staff living around that vicinity that have watched the clips, have actually told us the make of the aircraft and what it looks like. This is why we have written an open letter to the President of this country, we are asking for an inquiry into this incident.
“Because from the clips captured by all the CCTV cameras, it has become obvious that this building never collapsed on its own. This is what we can call a controlled demolition. When this building went down, other surrounding buildings never had any crack, but just this one, and that is why we said it is a controlled demolition.
“To buttress this fact, we have been able to get clips of controlled demolition across the world, to show similarities. Controlled demolition, is a new technology that you can isolate a building in an area, bring it down, without any other surrounding building being affected. Our interest is that we are requesting for a holistic inquiry from government, so that the world will know what happened.”

Man stabs mother to death

By Austin Ogwuda
Enugu—Enugu State police command has arrested a middle-aged man for allegedly stabbing his mother to death.
The incident took place while the woman was sleeping in the early hours of last Thursday at Ubiekpo Abor in Udi local government area of Enugu State.
Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, however, in a statement issued yesterday, alluded to the fact that the man might be mentally deranged and that he had since been arrested.
The PPRO said: “Operatives of the state criminal investigations of the Enugu State command of the Nigeria Police Force have commenced a full scale investigation to unravel the mystery and circumstances surrounding the alleged stabbing to death of a woman by the son on October 2, 2014, at about 5am.
“The suspect, identified as Uchechukwu Ugwuozor, had allegedly gone to the bed where the mother, also identified as Eunice Ugwuozor, was lying down and stabbed her to death over a yet-to-be-identified reason, abandoning the lifeless body of the mother and escaping to an unknown destination.
“Sources close to the family hinted that the alleged murderer is linked to an unresolved psychological problem.
“Meanwhile, the dead body of the deceased is now deposited at the hospital mortuary of Our Saviour located at 9th Mile Corner, Ngwo, Enugu, just as the suspect has also been apprehended by the operatives.”
The PPRO also told Vanguard that the proactive measures which the command had adopted had put it in a better stead to contain any ugly incident during the Sallah celebrations.
Commenting on the preparedness of the command for the Sallah, he said: “The command has involved itself with strict proactive policing measures, aimed at ensuring a peaceful state and that of Sallah inclusive.
“So, the command will continue to be proactive in policing measures which involve strong partnership with members of the public, sister security agencies, the media and, of course, we have increased visibility policing for easy response to distress call should there be any incident.”

Pastor, two others nabbed for diverting goods worth N25m

By Esther Onyegbula
Operatives of Federal Anti-robbery Squad, FEDSARS, has arrested three members of a sus-pected 4-man robbery gang which specialises in hijacking and diverting trucks transporting goods within Lagos and Ogun states.
The suspects, identified as pastor Peter Iyasele, a.k.a Major, Anthony Ibiade, and Amas Debar, were arrested after FEDSARS’ operatives received a tip-off that a group of robbers had hijacked a 25ft container bearing 25 units of heavy duty outdoor split air conditioners worth over N25 million, as one Oliver, surname unknown, is still at large.
Vanguard gathered that the arrest of Amas Debar at Ijora led to the arrest of Anthony Ibiade and Peter Iyesele, after they had successfully hijacked the goods and transported it to their warehouse in Ibadan.
Their arrest led to the recovering of 22 units of the airconditioners, while one had been damaged.
Two of the airconditioners were, however, not recovered.
It was gathered that while Peter worked as a transporter, the other members of the gang are professional hijackers whose stock in trade was diversion of goods.
One of the suspects recounted his exploits: “My name is Peter Iyesele, 56-year-old, I am married and I have four children. I am a pastor and I have a church along Badagry expressway.
“I was arrested at Igando bus-stop for participating in hijacking and diversion of goods worth over N25 million. I have been engaging in these operations for years but after a while I stopped and invested proceeds from the operations in transportation.
“For about nine years, I didn’t participate in any of these operations because I had made enough from the operations until I received a call from God to serve him. I was doing well in my transportation business before I was duped by a woman.
“The reason I went back into robbing was to get money to expand the church of God where I pastor. If I had succeeded, I would have used the proceeds to build a house for God.”
Vanguard gathered that while the police are still making efforts to arrest Oliver, the other suspects have been charged to court.

Boko Haram: It is biblical for Christians to defend themselves — Bagobiri

…Says Christians who are absolute pacifist have all perished
By Luka Binniyat
ZANGON KATAF—The Catholic Bishop of Kafanchan Diocese, Bishop Joseph Bagobiri said yesterday it was a religious obligation binding on Christians to use, “moderate and proportionate force” to defend themselves against the onslaught on them by the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram, arguing that it was a biblical teaching.
He also said that Christian communities that observe absolute pacifism, have all ceased to exist.
The former Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Kaduna state Chapter, also came down heavily on retired generals from Southern Kaduna, where he alleged Fulani gunmen have killed several hundreds of persons since 2011. He described the act of reticence by Christians as, “gross act of irresponsibility”
Bagobiri said this in his homily at a reception organised for the immediate Group Managing Director, GMD, of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Engr Andy La’ah Yakubu, in Unguwan Wakili, Zangon Kataf Local Governenmt Area, LGA, in Southern part of Kaduna state.
The Magisterium on legitimacy of self defence
Said Bagobiri: “The Catechism of the Catholic Church describes it as an act of love towards one self; and carried out out in defense of God’s gift to life which we are merely custodians. The theological authorities of the Church are emphatic: Love towards oneself remains a fundamental principle of morality.
“Therefore, it is legitimate to insist on respect for one’s own right to life. Someone who defends his life is not guilty of murder even if he is forced to deal his aggressor a lethal blow . Nor is it necessary for salvation that a man omit the act of moderate self-defense to avoid killing the other man, since one is bound to take more care of one’s own life than of another’s’
“The Magisterium is further explicit on this subject matter when it teaches that ‘ legitimate Defence can not only be a right but grave duty for one who is responsible for the lives of others. The Defence of the common good require than an unjust aggressor be rendered unable to cause harm.
“It must be stated clearly here that in light of the above official church statement, that  the exercise of self Defence does amount to un-forgiveness, nor is it to be seen as an act of vengeance or vendetta.
“Christians must do everything within their powers to protect their lives from being snuffed off by Satanist driven  Islamic organisations. Christian communities that observe absolute pacifism have all ceased to exist, according to researchers into Christian persecution.

The miracle of body magic and wonder bra - by Etcetera

You can talk about body magic but please leave our wonder bras alone. Lol. Article written by singer turned writer, Etcetera. Enjoy...
Those women who wear simple and proper undergarments, this article is not about you. It is for those women who are confused and concerned and are leaning toward spending their hard-earned money on a magic garment that is being peddled as if it can solve all that ail them, only to be sorely disappointed.
Every eight seconds, a woman looks in the mirror and wants to be smaller. I have a huge problem with this type of women.
Whenever I meet people who pretend to be what they are not, it gets under my skin. When you present yourself as something, you’re asking me to trust you are exactly what you say you are. Why would you then abuse the trust you asked for with the goal of winning my heart? That is not fair. A friend of mine introduced me to a very hot chic at a bar in Ikeja and after hours of hanging out and getting to know each other, she followed me home. All I could think about was what she’d look like under all those tight clothes, but when she finally grunted her way out of those really tight jeans and her body began to spread in all directions, I suddenly had a headache and didn’t feel so well and I gave her cab fare home.

I mean, is this body magic thing for-real? It is ridiculous. To think that someone would honestly wear it instead of putting the time and effort into actually losing the extra pounds should be a personal embarrassment. It’s really gone past pathetic. The extreme to which our women are going to capture an image of beauty that is neither holistic, healthy nor attractive is crazy. It seems so strange that some ladies complain about not being able to find sincere, honest and real men when everything about them is synthetic, processed and unreal. Ladies, let me sell you a clue. If you find a man, any man, who seems to be attracted to women who have certain physical attributes like fake hair, fake nails, fake round bum-bum, fake flat stomach, fake eyelashes and fake breasts, odds are he’s a fake man. So if that’s what you’re looking for (fake men), then that’s cool. Leave the ‘real’ men to the ‘real’ women. If my girl had to undress and all of a sudden picked up 8 to 10 pounds merely by taking off her corset, the attraction would have ended immediately. Because it is a fraud and I don’t get myself involved with fraudulent people. What worries me most is, how do you as a lady guard your emotions from the reaction you will inevitably receive when that look of shock and disdain appears on the face of your man after he sees those parts you’ve been hiding under that body magic? If you find yourselves that undesirable, why would you expect a man to find you desirable?

Let’s look at this thing called body magic and the falsity around it. It makes you feel you have dropped three dress sizes right? Which basically means you’ll shave off about three inches of fat in ten minutes, firm up your abs, and boom, you’ve lost all the extra weight. Yes girlfriend, a body magic can reshape you. Wearing a corset can change your bust-line, by raising the breasts upwards and shaping them, flattening the stomach, and improving posture. However, these effects are only temporary and will be lost on removing the corset. Indeed, excessive corset wearing has been claimed to weaken certain muscles, making it more difficult to maintain your shape. Another thing a body magic can’t do is make a mound of fat disappear. Using a body magic for this purpose does nothing except shift mass fat into a place it originally was not supposed to be. Think about it, if fat was supposed to be buried deeper into your body, then guess what? God would have put it there. It’s stored on the outermost parts of your frame for a reason. Squeezing into a body magic and hoping it’s going to help permanently hide whatever flaws your body may have is a joke. And for Christ’ sake, the thing is so uncomfortable and tight, that it makes you unable to breathe or ease yourself when pressed.

I am really sad that our ladies don’t talk about healthy eating or exercise anymore. Body magic is a temporary fix at best and deceitful for that matter. Ladies, let’s be truthful here, if you met a guy who was wearing a muscle garment and once he took his shirt off, he was all flab underneath, won’t you be very disappointed? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a problem with a woman using the garment in the process of losing weight and wanting to look toned down after childbirth. What I have issues with is the fact that we in this country are all about the quick fix. I think we should know that looking good is not just about hiding the body fat. And wait a minute, I know some of you may actually think that you don’t have to stop eating your favourite fatty foods, because your body magic will force you right back in shape. You forget the fact that those foods are unhealthy and lack proper nutrition for the body. You also forget that those are the same foods that got you in a physically unfit figure in the first place. Forget the fact that those foods aren’t going to help you maintain that figure. Should you magically obtain it, you don’t want to sacrifice and take pains to exercise. Doesn’t it surprise you that the garment is called body magic, likeabracadabra? It can give you all you want and you don’t have to sacrifice at all. My dear, nothing works that easy.

Why not work harder to achieve a permanent figure you are craving for? It must be hard, or down right depressing to walk around looking fine most of the day, and then having to take off the fine body suit and look at the undesired one at night. It’s like you are trying to fool yourself and others. Eventually, you’re going to have to face the ‘fat’. Remember when you take off that body magic, gravity takes over! And no man wants to buy an illusion. We all want the real thing. It’s just sad that some Nigerian women are so hell bent on instant gratification. It would be beautiful to see you ladies embrace yourselves as you are. If you run like a rat, smell like a rat and look like a rat, then guess what girlfriend, you are a rat.

I’m no longer interested in N25m compensation' - Baba Suwe says

Comic actor Baba Suwe says he's no longer interested in the N25million compensation he asked from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for falsely arresting him on drug charges

In a chat with Punch, Baba Suwe said he doesn't want the money anymore, just a public apology because of how much the arrest affect both his personal and work life;
"The NDLEA has wronged me and it is meant to find a way to make me happy. It is a slap on my face. I am not agitating for the money; I don’t need it to survive in life. All I want is an apology. If the government can tender an apology to me and publish it in newspapers, I will have peace of mind and be happy,” he said.
He also denied recent reports that he's getting re-married soon.
"It is not true that I am about to get married. Don’t mind those saying it, they are saying rubbish. There is no atom of truth in it. If I would get married, it would not be a secret; everybody would hear about it. I also have it in mind to marry a woman that would love me as well as my children and give me peace of mind,” Baba Suwe said.

Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko Dumps LP For PDP

Olusegun Mimiko has finally decamped to PDP, just like former Ogun Sate Governor, Gbenga Daniel recently did.

He was received by Vice President Namadi Sambo on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan at a brief ceremony held inside the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa. Mimiko was joined by members of his cabinet, LP lawmakers from the state in the National Assembly and 25 members of the state House of Assembly.

The Governor who said he decided to join PDP because of the interest of Ondo people and Nigerians at large said that, his immediate target was to ensure that President Goodluck Jonathan was re-elected. He promised to spearhead the process by creating “a solid and robust platform of involvement in the re-election of the president”.

New Video Is Fake, Abubakar Shekau is Dead – Defence HQ

Is Abubakar Shekau really dead? The new video purportedly released by Boko Haram leader,Abubakar Shekau has been described as fake by theNigerian Defence Headquarters.

Shekau appeared in the clipreleased today claiming responsibility for a missing Air Force jet and also dismissingreports of his death.

The Defence HQ has however released a statement discrediting the video. It reads:

The Defence Headquarters isstudying the claims made in the video purportedly released by the terrorists showing their leader Abubakar Shekau as dismissing his death. From immediate observation and what some online newsoutlets claimed to have seen, the video did not indicate when it was shot neither did it show any proof of life or currency such as screen timeor date.

The video also did not make any reference to anything that has happened since the impostor’s reported death. It is also noteworthy that the air plane said to be mentioned in the video had been missing before he was killed.

It should not surprise anybody if the terrorists decide tomanipulate pictures, clone another Shekau or upload a pre-recorded video all in a bid to prove invincible. As far as we are concerned, the individual who was appearing in video and claiming to be the leader of the terrorist group was killed in the Kondunga battle in September.

The resemblance of the corpse and that of theeccentric character was incontrovertible. His identity was equally corroborated by people who knew him before we announced his death. So, while waiting to see the new video before any further statement, our message to them is that justice will be served to whoever bears that name or designation andwhoever engages in act.

Shekau said in the video that Boko Haram was instituting Sharia law in the communities that it had occupied in the troubled North East.

IS HE REALLY DEAD? SEE The Old And New Shekau (PHOTO)

There had been previous skepticism (by observers of the Northern insurgency) over the death of the man known as Shekau when it was reported last month.

In the new video, Shekau wore combat fatigues and black rubber boots, and he was standing on the back of a pickup truck, shooting into the air with his anti-aircraft gun.

It is unclear where the video was shot. He spoke for 16 minutes in two languages: Arabia and Hausa.

The heavily bearded man, who looks not unlike the previous Shekaus in older videos has rubbished the military’s claim that he had been killed, calling it propaganda. SEE PHOTOS HERE
