MTN presents N20m to Kano, Yola Polo tournaments

Passionate as ever about the game of polo in Nigeria, MTN, at the weekend, presented a cheque of N20 Million  to Kano and Yola Polo Clubs in the just concluded MTN 2014 international polo tournaments in the two ancient kingdoms.
The Kano presentation that held at the Usman Dantata Polo Ground on Sunday  was one of the major highlights of the exciting polo event that was decided over two weekends of top class polo game. A cheque of N15 Million was handed over to the club officials at the ceremony.
Interestingly, the MTN-sponsored international tournaments  that took place simultaneously in Kano and Adamawa states, also saw Yola Polo Club benefiting from the sponsorship support  to the tune of N5 Million.
The company’s Trade and Marketing Manager, North West, Abdulhamid Hassan who made the presentation in Kano said the company’s involvement with polo was its own way of contributing to the development of the noble game which has been part of Nigerian culture for over a century now.
“MTN has been at the forefront of sports development with several sponsorship initiatives spanning polo, golf, soccer, amongst others. We plan to do more in this regard and take sports to the level where it would rival the best anywhere in the world,” he declares.
“Like the services we provide, polo is a unifying force that knows no boundaries. We are tapping into the passion that people feel for the game to bring to the front burner, the need to develop our sporting sector, so that in our little way, we can contribute to making life better for Nigerians,” he adds.
Kano Polo Chairman, Alhaji Bashir Dantata who described MTN long-term partnership with Kano Polo Club, as worthy of emulation, pointed out that the landmark collaboration has already impacted positively in the development of polo and sports generally in Kano.
The Lamido Adamawa, who is also the Grand Patron of Yola Polo Club, HRH Muhammadu Bakindo Musdafa who received the cheque on behalf of the club, thanked MTN for its enduring commitment to the noble game of polo.
The royal father described the partnership with MTN in the northern part of Nigeria, as a veritable tool that has  made life better and turns the youth away from negative vices.
The two events ended on an exciting note over the weekend with Lagos Lintex/RTC and Abuja Rubicon emerging the biggest winners in Kano and Yola respectively.
